Free Crawford!

Dear Terry Francona,

It is time to free Carl Crawford from the number eight spot in the order. He is hitting over .400 in the month of May and would be much more valuable in the two or five hole. Jed Lowrie has cooled off and can be moved down in the order to make a spot for Crawford. I would prefer you put him in the two hole because Crawford and Ellsbury back to back is unstoppable. Pedroia will have no issue batting fifth because he is the ultimate team player. Make this move ASAP.

Sincerely,

Me.

Seven Games, No TV Broadcast

Including todays 1:05PM start against the Phillies, the Red Sox will have played seven Spring Training games without a single one being broadcast on TV. This makes about zero sense to me.

With all the hype of the new faces coming to Boston this season, I want to be able to see their first at-bats in a Sox uniform without having to book a trip to Fort Meyer’s, Florida. Come on NESN. This is Red Sox Nation, people will skip work to watch the first Spring Training game on TV but instead I have to wait until the eighth game of Spring Training to see any live baseball.

I just saw a tweet from Ian Browne saying the only prominent players traveling to play the Yankees tomorrow will be Clay Buchholz, Jason Varitek, Jed Lowrie and Jose Iglesias. So the first game we are going to watch we don’t get to see Pedroia, Youkilis, Big Papi, Crawford, Ellsbury or ANYONE else good. That makes sense. Get on top of your game NESN. This is Red Sox Nation, WE WANT BASEBALL!

Projected Sox Lineup: Pedroia to Bat Ninth?

[blip.tv http://blip.tv/play/hZNkgqTjRwI%2Em4v%5D

On the night the Red Sox signed Carl Crawford, Terry Francona called Dustin Pedroia and told him that he was now batting ninth because they had signed Crawford. He was joking, of course, but on the WEEI Dennis & Callahan Show Pedroia was asked about hitting ninth and replied with this…

“I’ve [hit ninth] before … and I was hitting lasers in the nine spot. If you don’t change your mind-set, you’ll be fine.”

There is absolutely no way Pedroia hits ninth. You just don’t hit a former AL MVP ninth in the order.

Coming of an injury plagued season, Jacoby Ellsbury will likely begin the season in the nine hole with Pedroia leading off.

Here is my projected lineup on opening day:

2B Dustin Pedroia

LF Carl Crawford

3B Kevin Youkilis

1B Adrian Gonzalez

DH David Ortiz

C Jarrod Saltalamacchia

RF J.D. Drew

SS Marco Scutaro

CF Jacoby Ellsbury

Spring is Here!

At least for baseball it is.

Yesterday was the official report day for pitchers and catchers and manager Terry Francona updated us on some pressing issues.

On Jacoby Ellsbury’s Health

“He’s healthy now. He says he’s doing everything without being limited, which is good because that had been a while. It’ll be fun to watch Ells. A year ago this time we’re talking about him playing left field, being our leadoff hitter and being a game-changer. Now we have the game-changer in left field (in Carl Crawford) and can move Ells back over to center and hopefully allow him to continue his development.”

On a Potential Closer Controversy

“I don’t think this is as much of an issue for Paps as maybe it was for people talking about Paps. He knows where I stand on this. I don’t think it’s much of an issue.”

On the Catching Situation

“We have Tek and Salty and I think we’re pretty comfortable with that, maybe more than people realize. Salty’s had a tremendous winter. This guy’s potentially a power-hitting, switch-hitting catcher. If that doesn’t come to fruition right away, that’s not the end of the world. We love the way he wants to run the game and he aspires to the run the game. And Tek’s in a good spot. He feels good about where he is and that makes us feel better.”

Positional players are due to report Friday with the first full workout coming Saturday.
